The signposts waiting to guide your path

should

You have done all the “right things”. On paper, you have an incredible job. There’s just one tiny detail you’ve been ignoring…it’s not your dream job.

Every day, little by little, that spark you used to have becomes more and more like a shadow of itself. You’re relying on heavy doses of caffeine to get you through the workday. The weeks go by in an autopilot blur, and you’re depleted by the time the weekend rolls around. You keep telling yourself things will lighten up next month, the situation will change…but it never does.

You feel stuck, underutilized, and unfulfilled.

Your rational brain is asking “why isn’t this enough”?

After all, this is what you “should” want. This is what you worked your tail off for. There are stacks of resumes for people trying to get into this company. People who covet this very job, while you’re wistfully dreaming about something more.

The problem is, you aren’t sure what direction to go in. Where to find “more”.

If this hits the mark, you’re not alone. I’ve been there.

I did all the things I “should” have done. I earned an MBA from Georgetown University, graduating with honors. I had a successful professional career in marketing and strategy across multiple industries in top companies like Microsoft, MillerCoors and adidas.

But it always felt like something was missing. Why was I not fulfilled? Maybe the next promotion will change everything?

But the next promotion never changes everything.

Shortly after each promotion I’d find myself sitting in a meeting wondering “what are we doing here?”.

Our rational brains have a tendency to get in the way of our happiness. Our ego gets involved and muddles the message.

Of course I’ll accept that job offer, I’d be an idiot not to.

You listen to this rational voice and believe in its wisdom. This voice convinces us to accept offers that don’t ignite our passion, citing them as logical steps in our career ladder. At the same time, we neglect to examine that gnawing feeling of hesitation.

In the chase for the next accolade, we ignore our instincts. We drown out the voice that begs for attention, for acknowledgment of what truly fulfills us. When we repeatedly silence our inner wisdom, it fades to a whisper, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish what we want from what we think we should want. The cost? A profound sense of emptiness that we can’t quite pinpoint.

I knew there must be more to life. I knew I had more to give. I just didn’t know how to listen to what my inner voice was telling me.

But like any dormant muscle, our ability to hear our true desires can be revived. We can learn to sift through the static of societal expectations and rediscover what genuinely excites us. Trust your energy—it’s an honest signal of where you should be investing your efforts. It’s time to realign with what brings you to life and to begin shedding the things that dim your light.

Embrace the practice of regularly asking yourself: “Do I feel alive right now?” Then, intentionally lean into activities that energize you, and gracefully exit situations that drain you.

Subtle yet deliberate shifts can catalyze profound transformation. By consistently honoring your instincts, your inner guidance becomes louder. These signs are your roadmap to fulfillment—often overlooked, yet ready to illuminate your path.

P.S. If you want help to reconnect to your spark, I got you.
